writing

I write to share information, express my ideas and convictions, honor activist work, and contribute to the creation of community.  Writing can also be a tool for social change, helping to churn up unexamined ideas, values, and beliefs, and to seed new perspectives and visions.

I’ve published books, essays in anthologies and academic journals, and articles and personal essays in alternative magazines, newsletters, and websites.  I have also written op ed pieces,  book reviews, leaflets, manifestos, newsletters, and worked on the script for a fashion show.

Much of the writing I do grows out of activist involvements. Some of it is co-authored and generated through ongoing discussion and the richness of collaborative work and shared approaches.

My current writing and research project asks When Is War Over? (76k PDF)

It concerns cleanup and healing from contamination caused by military operations and war— from the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the spraying of Agent Orange in Vietnam, and use of depleted uranium in the 1991 Persian Gulf War to the toxic chemicals that are a routine part of running a military base or training operations.

I emphasize what has been accomplished, and show how people can contribute to this crucial and challenging issue.
